Guangzhou food adventures

its pretty challenging to find familiar food here. I fully expected NOT to find chow mein and chop suey. But it’s shocking how many food choices there are in this area, yet so little that’s familiar. I was doing an activity with the kids today about food, and they were able to talk about spaghetti and pizza and macaroni that Canadians eat, but other than KFC and very occasional McDon’s, there is very little “other” cultural influences in the food scene. Talking to our handler about my hometown, I was telling him about all the restaurants in town- Greek, Indian, Italian, Thai, and an hour away there is almost any other nationality represented. Other than a Hilal place, we haven’t seen any other cuisines. Interesting… and occasionally challenging
